MINNEAPOLIS – Head coach Justin Smith has announced that the University of Minnesota men's golf team has made their second signing in as many days, adding Jack Wetzel from Edina, Minn. on Wednesday afternoon.

"We are thrilled to have Jack and his family join our program. Jack is an incredible person, student, and talent on the course and his impact with our team will extend to every area of our program," Smith said. "Watching him compete this spring has really shown us that not only will he develop into a great player for us, he will prove to be a leader that this program needs. It is always our priority to identify the top players in our home state that really want to wear the maroon and gold proudly."

Wetzel will join the Gophers after playing for the Edina golf team at Edina High School. During his 2021 season, Wetzel earned First Team-All Conference honors, in addition to being named a 2022 Captain. He closed out his high school career with an 18-hole average of 73.9.

Wetzel and the Hornets wrapped up their 2021 season by finishing third in their conference while winning the section championship and placing second in the state tournament.

The 2022 Edina High School senior excels not only on the golf course, as he held a 4.0 GPA and earned academic awards during his time as a varsity athlete for both golf and soccer.

Wetzel joins Mason Roloff and Cormac Sharpe as incoming freshmen, with recently-signed Jacob Pedersen joining the Maroon and Gold after four years at Gustavus Adolphus College.
