Gophers Announce Full 2022 Volleyball Schedule

Minnesota will play 28 regular season games
MINNEAPOLIS -- The University of Minnesota volleyball program has announced its 2022 fall schedule. As announced previously, Minnesota will compete in eight nonconference matches before beginning a 20-match Big Ten conference schedule in late September. Broadcast information and dates will follow at a later time.
For the second year in-a-row, Minnesota opens in the Big Ten/Big 12 Challenge on the road. The Gophers will play Baylor in a rematch of the 2021 Sweet 16 matchup to open the year on Aug. 26. They'll play TCU the next night to conclude the challenge. Both games will be hosted by the Horned Frogs in Fort Worth, Texas.
On Aug. 31, Minnesota will play on the road at Texas in a return game of the home-and-home series that started last year in Minneapolis. The Longhorns are coming off a season in which they made the Elite Eight.
The first home game will be on Sunday, Sept. 4 against the Florida Gators. Minnesota traveled down to Gainesville, Fla., for a game in 2021.
Minnesota closes its non-conference slate by hosting a pair of two-game tournaments. First up will be the Big Ten/Pac-12 Challenge that takes its turn being played at Maturi Pavilion. The Gophers host Oregon on Friday, Sept. 9 before playing Stanford on Saturday. The Gophers defeated both teams in Eugene, Ore., last year to win the early-season tournament.
Pepperdine and Washington State will be in town for the Diet Coke Classic from Sept. 15-17. The 'U' will host Pepperdine on Thursday, Sept. 15 and Washington State on Saturday, Sept. 17.
The Gophers open league action on Friday, Sept. 23 with a matchup against the Purdue Boilermakers at Holloway Gymnasium before hosting defending national champion to open the Big Ten home slate on Sunday, Sept. 25. Following the battle with the Badgers, the 'U' stays home to host Northwestern on Wednesday, Sept. 28 and Iowa on Homecoming (Saturday, Oct. 1).
Minnesota then hits the road for a weekend in Michigan on Oct. 7 and 9. The Gophers take on the Wolverines on Friday, Oct. 7 and the Spartans of Michigan State on Sunday, Oct. 9.
Two consecutive home games the next week against Ohio State (Oct. 12) and Illinois (Oct. 15) follow next before Minnesota travels to Iowa for a Wednesday night matchup on Oct. 19. The 'U' closes up the first half of its conference slate against Purdue on Saturday, Oct. 22.
Michigan State comes to Maturi Pavilion for the second match of the season between the two teams (Oct. 26) before the Gophers travel to Madison for matchup No. 2 with the Badgers at UW Fieldhouse. Minnesota played five times at UW Fieldhouse last season, including the Big Ten/Big 12 Challenge and the NCAA Tournament's Madison Regional.
The weekend after playing in Madison, the 'U' has its only Friday/Sunday home and road turnaround matches. The Gophers host Michigan on Friday, Nov. 4 before going to Illinois for a matinee on Sunday, Nov. 6.
Minnesota closes its home slate with weekend matches vs. Maryland (Friday, Nov. 11) and Indiana (Sunday, Nov 13). Senior Day will be celebrated immediately following the match against Indiana. Naya Gros (middle), Ellie Husemann (middle), Rachel Kilkelly (defensive specialist), CC McGraw (libero), Miranda Wucherer (setter) will be honored.
The Gophers will close the season with four consecutive road games; starting first with a Friday/Saturday back-to-back at Penn State (Nov. 18) and Rutgers (Nov. 19). Over Thanksgiving weekend, coach McCutcheon and company have a challenging finish, going to Ohio State on Friday, Nov. 25 and playing at Nebraska on Saturday, Nov. 26.
For the 2022 season, Minnesota returns eight athletes who started matches in last season's run to the NCAA Regional Final. The 'U' finished No. 7 in the final AVCA Poll, its seventh straight top-10 finish nationally.
