Loper, Ramler Named Academic All-Americans

Minnesota's duo named Academic All-Americans for second time in their careers
Ona Loper and Lexy Ramler earned CoSIDA Academic All-America honors as the College Sports Information Directors of America announced this year's Women's At-Large Academic All-America teams Wednesday. Loper and Ramler were both earned Second Team Academic All-America merits.
Recognizing the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances in competition and in the classroom, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at their current institution in order to be nominated for CoSIDA Academic All-District and CoSIDA Academic All-America. Nominees are voted on by CoSIDA members throughout the year.
A grad student in epidemiology from Bluffton, S.C., Loper is on the second team for the second consecutive season. A four-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree and a three-time Big Ten Distinguished Scholar, Loper is one of the best gymnasts to ever wear a Minnesota leotard and had a fantastic final season as a Gopher. She set or tied career highs in every event and in the all-around in 2022 and was named a finalist for the prestigious AAI Award.
Loper tied Ramler for first in the all-around at the NCAA Regional Semifinal and won the NCAA Regional Final. She earned NCAA Championships Second Team All-America honors on bars and the all-around and was also named a WCGA First Team All-American on the vault and in the all-around.
The most decorated gymnast in Minnesota history, Ramler, who earned her degree in entrepreneurial management and is now a graduate student in human resources, is an Academic All-American for the second year in a row after appearing on the first team last season. A St. Michael, Minn., native, Ramler is a four-time Academic All-Big Ten selection and a Big Ten Distinguished Scholar. She helped guide the Gophers to the NCAA Team Championships this year as Minnesota placed sixth as a team, its best finish ever. She finished sixth in the all-around and earned NCAA Championships First Team All-American honors on bars, beam and the all-around.

Ramler, who was a three-time Big Ten Gymnast of the Year in her career, was a finalist for the Honda Sport Award in 2022.
