Incoming Freshmen Wetzel and Roloff Place First and Sixth in Class AAA Minnesota State Championship

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – After a rollercoaster finish to the Class AAA Minnesota State Golf Tournament, Jack Wetzel was part of a three-way tie to secure the title. Following closely behind was Spring Lake Park senior – and incoming freshman – Mason Roloff, who finished in sixth. The tournament was held at Bunker Hills Golf Club in Coon Rapids, Minn. on June 14-15.
Wetzel tied Mr. Minnesota Golf Nate Stevens after a combined score of four-under par (70-70--140) through two rounds. He birdied five holes in the final round to keep pace with Stevens (and Owen Rexing, who also tied for first place), finishing the last five holes birdie-bogey-par-par-par. That proved to be enough to claim the top spot, with the other two golfers also finishing at four-under par.
Roloff finished just five strokes behind Wetzel and the other two co-champions, ending the event with a combined score of one-over par (74-71—145). He led Spring Lake Park to a second-place team finish, trailing only Wetzel's Edina Hornets.
With two incoming Gophers finishing in the top six of the individual standings – as well as first and second in the team standings – fans of the Maroon and Gold have plenty to be excited about as both Wetzel and Roloff join the University of Minnesota men's golf team in the very near future.
