Set Breakdown:
Set 1: The two teams split the first 12 points in the first set before a 3-0 Gophers run gave the visitors a 9-6 advantage. Taylor Landfair and Carter Booth had kills in the mini run. With the Gophers leading 11-8, Purdue went on a 7-0 run to take their largest lead at 15-11. They had a pair of aces and five kills in the spurt. The Boilermakers kept up the attack, stretching their lead to as many as seven at 21-14. Minnesota would get back within five at 23-18 after a pair of blocks by Carter Booth before PU closed out set one, 25-18. Mckenna Wucherer led the Gophers with four kills while Landfair had three in the first set.
Set 2: Purdue led 4-2 early before a 9-2 Gophers run gave Minnesota an 11-6 lead, forcing a Boilers timeout. Ellie Husemann had a pair of kills in the run while Carter Booth and Melani Shaffmaster had a pair of blocks. Purdue would storm back with a 10-5 run to tie it up at 16, forcing a Minnesota timeout. Two more points from PU gave them an 18-16 lead. The Gophers would fight back, taking the next three points to force a Boilermakers timeout. A kill from Landfair and a block from Shaffmaster and Booth turned the tide. The Gophers would keep their run going after the timeout, scoring three of the next four to take a 22-19 lead, getting kills from Landfair and Wucherer. The set wouldn't be done just yet, however, as PU scored four of the next five to tie it up at 23 and force another Minnesota timeout. The Boilermakers would close out the set with another kill and an attacking error by Shaffmaster to win, 25-23.
Set 3: Kills from Landfair and Wenaas quickly put the Gophers up 2-0 in set three. A battle ensued throughout the early onset of set three, with no team leading by more than one before a 3-0 Purdue run turned a 9-8 deficit into an 11-9 lead. Coach McCutcheon would burn his first timeout with his team trailing by two. PU would score the next point before a 3-1 Minnesota run would tie it up at 13. The two teams would exchange points up to 15-15, with the 'U' benefitting off an attacking error and a pair of service errors. A 3-0 Boilermakers run after that put the home team up 18-15 and led to coach McCutcheon calling timeout once again. A 4-1 Minnesota run would knot it back up at 19. Kills from Wucherer and Landfair and a block from Landfair and Booth did the job and forced Purdue into taking a timeout. Purdue went up 21-19 and 22-20 before a kill from Wenaas and an attacking error tied it back up at 22 and forced another Boilers timeout. PU had a potential set point at 24-23 before a Wucherer kill kept the match alive. Minnesota had a chance to clinch the set leading 26-25 before PU answered right back. The two teams continued to battle it out for set point before the Boilermakers eventually closed it out, 32-30, taking the set and the sweep.
