Gophers in First Place After Two Rounds of the MacDonald Cup

New Haven, Conn. – After completing two rounds of the MacDonald Cup today, the Gopher men's golf team ranks 1st in a field that includes Harvard, Richmond, St. John's, Yale, Michigan, Fairfield, Bucknell, Fordham, Penn, and Hartford. Antoine Sale, Ben Warian, Jack Wetzel, Jacob Pedersen, Lincoln Johnson, and Connor Glynn are representing the Maroon and Gold. The final round will be a shotgun start at 8 a.m. CT on Sept. 25.
After posting a team score of eleven-over par (361) in the first round, the Gophers earned an incredible score of ten-under par (340) the next round, totaling in a score of one-over par (701) and a 1st place position heading into the final round. This strong team performance was made possible by phenomenal individual rounds, particularly in round two where Jack Wetzel, Lincoln Johnson, Ben Warian, and Jacob Pedersen all finished under par.

Lincoln Johnson logged five of his six birdies in the second round from holes 13 through 18, guiding him to a two-round score of three-under par (137). He heads into the final round in a tie for 3rd place in the tournament.
Junior Ben Warian secured five birdies of his own in round two, facilitating his path to a one-under par finish (139) across two rounds. He holds the 9th spot in the event going into the last round.
In another great second round performance, Jacob Pedersen notched an eagle as well as three birdies on his way to finishing the day with a score of one-over par (141), placing him in a tie for 12th place.
Senior Connor Glynn registered five birdies in round one, paving the way for his two-round score of one-over par (141). He enters the final round of the event in a tie for 12th place.
Freshman Jack Wetzel completed round two with a score of four-under par (66), the best single round performance by a Gopher through two rounds of the MacDonald Cup. He collected six birdies in the second round, leading him to a two-round score of three-over par (143) and a tie for 23rd place.
Antoine Sale tallied two birdies in his second round and finished the day with a two-round score of thirteen-over par (153). He is tied for 62nd going into the third round of the tournament.
