MINNEAPOLIS - The University of Minnesota tennis program welcomes four newcomers for the 2022-23 season, including Anet Kosel. Hailing from Estonia, Kosel is a freshman at the 'U' this season.

"We are looking forward to Anet being part of our Gopher family and having the opportunity to get started working with her on campus soon," said head coach Catrina Thompson

Prior to her University of Minnesota tenure, Koskel was the Estonian Championship doubles winner for three straight years from 2018-20, the U18 Estonian Championship winner (2018, 2021) and the U16 Estonian Championship winner in 2018. As she joins the squad she shares why she chose Minnesota, her passion for tennis and much more.

Gopher Sports: Why did you choose the University of Minnesota?
Anet Koskel: Coach Catrina had a huge impact on my decision making. When we first spoke I instantly felt comfortable and cared for, which is really important to me when I'll be so far away from home.

GS: What are you majoring in and why?
AK: I picked kinesiology at first because I am interested in physiology, but now I am thinking of switching to landscape architecture. My two older sisters are architects, and my love for nature and art definitely have played a huge role in my change of mind.

GS: What drives your passion for the game of tennis?
AK: The satisfaction of winning. I like to work hard and it is extremely rewarding to see it paying off on court as well.

GS: Who is your role model?
AK: I cannot say I have a certain role model. I look up to many people, especially my family.

GS: What other hobbies do you possess?
AK: When I do have time, I like to go swimming, or be creative by drawing or painting.

GS: What do you look forward to the most when moving to Minnesota?
AK: I look forward to making new friends and memories, learning more about the culture and I definitely cannot wait to get out on the court.
