The men's team was receiving votes, sitting at No. 34 in regards to total votes. The 'Week 1' rankings from the USTFCCCA rankigns will be revealed on Sept. 12.

In the regional rankings the women's squad sits at No. 5 in the Midwest Region while the men are sitting at No. 4. Drake, who is competing at the Oz Memorial, sits at No. 10 in the Midwest Regional rankings.

LAST TIME OUT: OZ MEMORIAL
The University of Minnesota cross country team kicked off its 2022 campaign at the Oz Memorial at the Les Bolstad Golf Course. Anastasia Korzenowski captured the victory in the 5K race for the Gophers on the women's side while the men's team had four of the top five finishers in their 6K race.

"The goal was to work together through three and four kilometers in groups, and I thought we did a really nice job at finding their packs," cross country head coach Sarah Hopkins said. "It was a hot day, we just got out of camp, everyone was a little bit fatigued and tired. The times weren't the objective today, it was just getting out there and getting a good competitive effort in again."

GOPHERS NAME 2022 CAPTAINS
The University of Minnesota men's and women's cross country teams announced their captains for the 2022 campaign. The men's team will be led by Eli Hoeft and Matt Wilkinson while the women will led headed by Anastasia Korzenowski, Libby Halbmaier, Sydney Kretlow and Taylor Kreitinger.

"I think that leaders are super important," head coach Sarah Hopkins said. "They're our conduit to the rest of the team and we have to trust them. Oftentimes you get captains that are your best athletes but may not be the most approachable. You have some captains that maybe aren't your best athletes but the younger kids don't feel as intimidated, so it's easier to go to them. Every captain we have this year really does serve a different role."

A 2021 QUICK RECAP
Last season was one of the most successful in Gopher cross country history. The women's team finished seventh overall at the 2021 NCAA Championships while the men finished 21st. The women's finish was the second best in program history while the men finished six spots higher than their national ranking heading into the meet.

Minnesota's women's team finished with three All-Americans, all who exhausted their eligibility in 2021, while the women also won the Big Ten Championship for the third time in program history. The men's team finished third at the conference meet, their best finish since 2015.
