Get to Know: Lovro Serdarevic

There are 18 newcomers to the Minnesota Swimming and Diving programs for the 2022-23 season. In order to get to know them better, GopherSports.com is doing Q&As with each.
Up next, Lovro Serdarevic, a freshman from Zagreb, Croatia, who attended the School of Natural Sciences Vladimir Prelog. He swam for Swimming Club Dubrava since 2017 and held club records in six different events before coming to Minnesota. Serdarevic competed at the European Junior Championships in 2019 and 2021, highlighted by finishing fifth in the 50 back at the 2021 EJC.
GopherSports.com: How did you get into swimming?
Lovro Serdarevic: "My dad enrolled me in the sport of swimming. He is from Dubrovnik, a small city on the Croatian coast. He was around water his whole life, so he thought I might like swimming."
GS: When did you realize you might be able to compete in college?
LS: "As a kid, I heard stories about swimmers going to college in the USA, so I wanted to try."
GS: What was your recruiting process like?
LS: "I was emailing and talking to coaches via online meets."
GS: What made you decide on Minnesota?
LS: "The high level of education and also great coaching staff and great team."
GS: Are there any particular teammates who have taken you under their wing and helped in your transition to college?
LS: "The team as a whole helped me to adapt and find myself in a new environment."
GS: Do you have any pre-meet or pre-race rituals?
LS: "No, just be myself."
GS: What is your favorite event to compete in and why?
LS: "Sprint freestyle and backstroke. I enjoy swimming those events, and they build my career."
GS: What is something you are looking forward to in your time as a Gopher?
LS: "Experiencing new style of life and working on myself."
