Faber, LaCombe Nominated for 2023 Hobey Baker Award

MINNEAPOLIS - Brock Faber and Jackson LaCombe representing the Minnesota men's hockey team were both nominated for the 2023 Hobey Baker Award it was announced Thursday. Fan voting for college hockey's top award is officially open at the link below.
The captain of the Golden Gophers, Faber has already recorded career highs offensively with three goals, 13 assists and 16 points and has a pair of three-point efforts on the year. A native of Maple Grove, Minn., he posted a career-long, six-game point streak from Nov. 17 to Dec. 3. He is second on the team blocking 38 shots and has closed a contest with a plus rating 13 times compared to just twice being a negative. Faber is the reigning Big Ten Conference Defensive Player of the Year and twice has landed on the All-B1G team.
LaCombe is the top-scoring defenseman in the B1G and sixth nationally, totaling 21 points behind a career-best five goals and 16 assists. Voted as an alternate captain for his final season wearing the Maroon and Gold, LaCombe has put together his third season with at least 20 points. He started the season with a career-high, nine-game point streak and has posted at least one point in 16 of 24 games played in 2022-23. He's been a two-time All-B1G selection and was named a Second Team All-American in 2021.
Hobey Baker Award criteria include candidates exhibiting the exceptional character traits of the award's namesake, Hobey Baker. A legendary American hero, Baker was a World War I fighter pilot and was known as America's greatest amateur athlete in his day, excelling at hockey and football at Princeton University. Award candidates must demonstrate strength of character both on and off the ice, contribute to the integrity of his team and display outstanding skills in all phases of the game. Consideration should be given to scholastic achievement and sportsmanship.
