Gophers Fall at Michigan

Ta'Lon Cooper led Minnesota with 15 points and 10 rebounds for his second point-rebound double-double of the season, while Jamison Battle (14 points), and Dawson Garcia (13 points) also finished in double figures, but Michigan rallied from a 10-point first-half deficit and held on down the stretch to escape with a 60-56 win Sunday afternoon at Crisler Center.
Minnesota never trailed in the first half. Battle and Garcia hit early three-pointers to help the Gophers jump out to an 8-0 lead, and that duo connected on back-to-back jumpers to give Minnesota the first of three 10-point leads of the half at 14-4. Cooper's jumper with 10:16 remaining in the half put the Gophers up 20-10, and Minnesota was then able to withstand an extended scoring drought to take a tie score, 23-23, to the locker room.
But the Wolverines grabbed their first lead early in the second half, stretched it to as much as a nine-point advantage with 3:02 left, and then fought off a late Gophers rally that cut the deficit to three points, 55-52, with 0:35 remaining. Joshua Ola-Joseph finished with seven points and six boards for the Gophers, while Pharrel Payne had seven points and five rebounds.
Minnesota hosts Indiana on Wednesday night. Game time is set for 8 p.m., and will be broadcast on Big Ten Network and KFAN 100.3 FM. It also marks Minnesota's annual Coaches vs. Cancer game.
