STARTING FIVE
•  The University of Minnesota men's basketball team is back in Williams Arena confines Wednesday night when Indiana comes to town. Tip time is set for 8 p.m., and broadcast on both Big Ten Network and KFAN 100.3 FM. The Gophers look to snap a five-game losing skid to the Hoosiers with the last win coming on Feb. 16, 2019. Minnesota is 46-37 all time against the Hoosiers on its home court.Â
•  Wednesday's game marks the only game contested between the two teams this year. Minnesota played Indiana both at Williams Arena and Bloomington, Ind., last year. In fact, the Gophers' next two opponents they will only see once this season. The Gophers also face Northwestern once this season, in Evanston, Ill., Saturday. Minnesota's other solo contests include Ohio State (W, 70-67), Iowa (Feb. 12) and Michigan State (Feb. 15).Â
•  Wednesday's game is the annual Coaches vs. Cancer game. For nearly 30 years, the Coaches vs. Cancer program, in collaboration with the National Association of Basketball Coaches, has united coaches and fans nationwide to help the American Cancer Society defeat a common enemy – cancer. Fans are encouraged to stop by the marketing tables located off the concourse for free silicone bracelet giveaways and signs. Join us Wednesday as we honor those that have battled cancer and their courage to continue fighting.Â
•  The Gophers are coming off 60-56 loss to Michigan Sunday in Ann Arbor, Mich. Ta'Lon Cooper led Minnesota with 15 points and 10 rebounds for his second point-rebound double-double of the season, while Jamison Battle (14 points), and Dawson Garcia (13 points) also finished in double figures. The Gophers never trailed in the first half and were tied at halftime at 23-23. However, Michigan took an early lead in the second half and fended off the Gophers for the win.Â
•  Minnesota had two individuals reach career milestones Sunday. Taurus Samuels played in his 100th collegiate game Sunday. Playing three years at Dartmouth, Samuels saw action in 82 games before transferring to Minnesota. Of his 100 collegiate games, 61 have been in the starting role. Jamison Battle also reached his 1,300-career point mark. Of the 1,300,  676 have come as a Gopher.Â
ABOUT INDIANA
• Indiana is 13-6 this season and 4-4 in Big Ten play. After dropping three in a row, Indiana enters the Minnesota game on a three-game win streak. The Hoosiers defeated Wisconsin (63-45), Illinois (80-65) and Michigan State (82-69) in that span.Â
• Preseason All-American honoree Trayce Jackson-Davis is the reigning Big Ten Player of the Week. Averaging 21.4 points in conference play alone, Jackson-Davis ranks third among league players in ppg (19.4), rebounding (10.1), field goal percentage (59.9 percent) and first in blocked shots (3.1 bpg). Jalen Hood-Schifino averages 12.5 ppg. Race Thompson returned to the Hoosier court on Sunday after missing time to an injury, while Xavier Johnson is also out indefinitely with an injury. Â
• As a team, the Hoosiers are averaging 79.2 ppg, while allowing 67.8 this season. Indiana is shooting 50.8 percent, and 38.1 from three-point range. The Hoosiers are also  70 percent from the free throw line and average 37.2 rebounds per game.Â
THE LAST TIME
• Minnesota dropped a pair of contests to Indiana last year, including the home season finale on the 2021-22 season, Feb. 27 in Williams Arena. Â
• Payton Willis scored 28 points and made 7 of 14 3-pointers for Minnesota. He also had seven assists. E.J. Stephens scored 14 points and his 3-pointer drew the Gophers within 82-79 with 5 seconds remaining before Indiana's Xavier Johnson closed it out with a pair of free throws, who scored 24 points.Â
