Women's Diving Puts Four in Top Eight at Georgia Invite

MINNEAPOLIS – The Minnesota women's diving program earned four top-eight finishes on day one of the Georgia Diving Invitational Tuesday in Athens, Ga.
Competing at the Gabrielsen Natatorium, fifth-year senior Joy Zhu led the way with a second-place finish on the 3-meter board. Her score of 358.85 was the second best for the Gophers this year and 3.25 points back of first place.
Junior Av Osero was the team's next best finisher as her score of 334.00 was a career high and good for fifth place. Her finals performance was over 42 points better than her score in the prelims and surpassed her previous career best score of 310.80 set earlier this year against Iowa.
Making her collegiate debut was freshman Vivi Del Angel, who finished seventh at 321.30. Right behind her in eighth place was junior Megan Phillip, who recorded a career high of 320.60.
Also in action was sophomore Kate LaMonica who finished prelims in 25th with a score of 251.30, while freshman Addie Albrecht came in 28th at 248.15.
On the men's side, freshman Drew Bennett posted an 11th-place finish in the 1-meter finals with his score of 249.15. In the prelims, he grabbed the last qualifying spot as his score of 274.75 was good for 12th.
Action continues Wednesday at the Georgia Diving Invitational. The women head to the platform, while the men move up to the 3-meter at 10 a.m. CT
