MINNEAPOLIS -  The University of Minnesota (9-12, 2-8 B1G) hosts its second top-five opponent in No. 4/5 Indiana (20-1, 10-1 B1G) this season on Wednesday night at Williams Arena. The game is scheduled to tip at 7 p.m. at Williams Arena on B1G+ and can be heard on the iHeartRadio app or on KFAN+ with Justin Gaard and Lynnette Sjoquist on the call.

ABOUT THE INDIANA GAME
  • Minnesota's matchup with Indiana is the 73rd meeting between the two programs in their history. The team is playing at Williams Arena for the first time since December of 2020, with the last Gophers win at home coming back in 2016 in a 78-76 decision at the Barn. Last year's matchup with Indiana was also a top-five matchup for Minnesota with the Gophers dropping a 10-point game to the Hoosiers in Bloomington with Alanna 'Rose' Micheaux the only current Gopher with any experience from that game last season, scoring two points in 15 minutes as a starter.
  • Minnesota is 37-35 all-time against Indiana.
  • Minnesota's last win against a ranked Indiana program was all the way back in 1993 when the Gophers defeated the No. 23 Hoosiers at home 80-70.
  • Indiana has lost just one game this season, that being to Michigan State on the road on December 29. Since then the Hoosiers have won eight straight, winning on average by 16.8 points.
  • Indiana is 8-0 against common opponents with the Gophers.
  • Indiana was picked to finish third in the Big Ten Preseason Coaches Poll and second in the Preseason Media Poll.
  • This season Indiana is led by All-Big Ten forward Mackenzie Holmes who scores on average 22 points per game and adds 8.0 rebounds per contest while shooting 68.4 percent, which is the No. 1 mark in the Big Ten and the No. 2 percentage in the NCAA.
  • The Hoosiers have three others who score in double figures with freshman Yarden Garzon averaging 12.8, Sydney Parrish adding 12.5 and Grace Berger scoring 12.4.
  • As a team Indiana is one of the best all-around teams in the country. The team is No. 1 in the Big Ten in six different categories, most notably their assist-to-turnover ratio at 1.49, which is good enough for the No. 4 mark in the NCAA this season.
GOPHER NOTABLES
  • Last time out the Maroon and Gold dropped a 77-41 contest to No. 13/17 Michigan (17-5, 7-4 B1G) at Williams Arena. Alanna 'Rose' Micheaux was the team's leader offensively with 15 points and added eight rebounds in the process. Freshman Amaya Battle also scored in double figures with 10 points while also adding five boards. The Gophers 41 points were a season low.
  • After snapping a nine-game double figure scoring streak Micheaux returned to that mark for the 10th time in 11 games against the Wolverines. The sophomore continues to rebound at a high level, staying tied for the most offensive rebounds per game in the Big Ten at 3.3. On the boards in her last six games Micheaux has averaged 11.5 and 4.7 offensive boards per game all against Big Ten opponents.
  • Against ranked opponents two Gophers have stood above the rest. Micheaux has averaged 16.2 ppg and 7.2 rebounds while shooting 56.1 percent. Freshman guard Amaya Battle has shown why she was named Minnesota's Ms. Basketball her senior year, scoring on an average clip of 10.8 against ranked opponents while adding 7.2 rebounds, 4.2 assists and shooting 41.1 percent from the floor.
  • Micheaux's latest double double vs. Illinois was her seventh of the season which is tied for the fifth most in the Big Ten this season. Three of her seven double doubles are against Big Ten opponents and four of them have been against Power 5 opponents.
  • Mallory Heyer has posted four double doubles this season as a freshman - the most for Minnesota since Destiny Pitts had six during her freshman campaign in 2017-18. She's been steady for the Gophers in the past six games with an average of 13.3 points per game and 8.5 rebounds per game.
  • Through 21 games this season Minnesota continues to prove itself a quality team on the boards with an average rate of 42.9 per game as a team which is No. 1 in the Big Ten conference and No. 18 in the nation. The team has been one of the best on the offensive glass at 13.9 per game, No. 2 in the Big Ten and 44th in the country.
  • Lindsay Whalen announced on Jan. 6, the signing of center Sophie Hart to the Gophers' program. Hart is a 6-5 graduate of Farmington High School, who played two seasons at NC State, and will join Minnesota with two years of eligibility. Coming out of high school Hart was the No. 64 ranked overall recruit in the class of 2021 and the No. 5 ranked player at her position by ESPN.
  • Minnesota head coach Lindsay Whalen announced the addition of five student-athletes on Nov. 16, who have signed National Letters of Intent or an Acceptance of Admission to join the Minnesota women's basketball program for the 2023-24 season. Signing NLIs with the Golden Gophers are Kennedy Klick, MyKynnlie Dalan, Ajok Madol and Dominika Paurová while Brynn Senden signed an Acceptance of Admission.
