Gopher Tennis Finishes First Road Event at 2023 SDSU Fall Classic

SAN DIEGO, CA - The University of Minnesota tennis team saw a lot of success on the final day of the San Diego State (SDSU) Fall Classic. The Golden Gophers finished Sunday with a 1-1 doubles record and 4-2 singles record. After three days of competition, the Maroon and Gold notched final records of 5-3 overall in doubles play and 13-5 overall in singles play.
Minnesota had finalists in each of the team's draws, with every Gopher notching a winning record in singles play. Freshman student-athlete Emma Belluomini finished first in her group, going undefeated in both singles and doubles (with partner Anali Kocevar) this weekend.

"The Gophers raised their level of play a notch higher this weekend," head coach Lois Arterberry said. "I saw our athletes fighting on every court to the last ball. This weekend, we played seven, three-set matches and won six of them. This showed how we can compete all the way to the end. Overall, we saw tremendous growth this weekend in both singles and doubles. As we return to Minnesota, Coach Steve, Coach Ana, and I are ready to work hard to prepare the players for the ITA Regional Tournament."

The Gophers will compete in the ITA Central Regional Tournament in Lawrence, Kans. from Oct. 12-16. The annual event will be the team's third and penultimate tournament of the 2023 fall season.
