Gopher Tennis to Compete in 2023 ITA Central Region Championships

LAWRENCE, KS - This week, the University of Minnesota tennis program will be on the road once again, competing in the 2023 ITA Central Region Championships from Oct. 12-16. The University of Kansas (KU) will host the tournament at Jayhawk Tennis Center in Lawrence, Kans.
The singles and doubles finalists of this event will earn a bid to the ITA National Fall Championships in San Diego, Calif. from Nov. 1-5. Last fall, two Gopher student-athletes (Anet Koskel and Zoey Weil) qualified for the national tournament after finishing second in doubles at the 2022 ITA Central Region Championships.
So Far This Season
Minnesota is coming off their first road tournament of the season, the San Diego State Fall Classic I, where they went 13-5 in singles play and 5-3 in doubles play. The ITA Central Region Championships will mark their third and penultimate tournament of the fall.
Tournament Format
The five-day event will kick off on Oct. 12 at 9 a.m. (CT) with two qualifying rounds of singles and one qualifying round of doubles for entry into the main draw.
Gopher Participants
Six University of Minnesota student-athletes are set participate in singles and doubles competition throughout the weekend: sophomores Sofia Pizzoni, Aiva Schmitz, Sofia Pinto, and Anali Kocevar, and freshmen Emma Belluomini and Mia Liepert are all to play in their third tournament of the season.
