Gophers to Conclude Regular Season with Rocky's Run

MINNEAPOLIS -- The University of Minnesota men's and women's cross country teams conclude the 2023 regular season with Rocky's Run on Saturday, October 21, with both the men's and women's competing in a 6K event that starts just adjacent to Les Bolstad Golf Course near the corner of county road 48 and the agriculture fields off of Larpenteur Avanue West in Falcon Heights, Minn.

ABOUT ROCKY'S RUN
Members of the public are invited to join the Gophers for an open 6k race on Saturday. Registration is open online and race-day registration will be available as well on Saturday. The entry fee to participate in $20 per person. The competition will begin at 10:30 a.m. and will be just one race. 

Rocky's Run was founded in 1981 to honor former Gopher runner Rochelle "Rocky" Racette, who died in a car accident that fall at the age of 22. While at the University of Minnesota, Racette was an All-American in track & field and cross country and champion of the Big Ten and Drake Relays 5,000-meter titles. The annual race is staged by the many members of the running community who knew and loved her. Racette's legacy lives on through the memory of those who knew her, and through Rocky's Run and the scholarship for which it raises money.

LAST TIME OUT: XC23 PRE-NATIONALS
The University of Minnesota cross country teams competed at the XC23 Pre-Nationals Meet at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Va., on Saturday morning with the women's team finishing 19th and the men finished 22nd.

The men's team was led by Emmet Anderson who finished 40th overall in a lifetime best 8K time of 24:02.9. Minnesota's women's team saw two individuals finish in the top 70 with Brianne Brewster finishing first in a time of 21:10.6 at the 6K distance to finish 63rd. Overall No. 6 BYU won the women's race with Arkansas and host Virginia rounded out the top three. The men's team that left Charlottesville, Va., victorious was No. 21 Arkansas with 35 team points while Tennessee was second and host Virginia was third.

A GOPHER STATE OF AFFAIRS
Of the 23 women on Minnesota's roster, 16 hail from the Land of 10,000 Lakes. Four additional states and one other country are represented, including Illinois (2), Wisconsin (2), North Dakota, California and Canada. On the men's side, nine of the 17 members are from Minnesota. Wisconsin is represented by three student-athletes, while Idaho, Montana, Iowa, Connecticut and Washington are the homes to one Gopher each.
