Gophers Swept By No. 16 Boilermakers

Minnesota hit nearly .300 as a team
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. --The Minnesota volleyball team hit .289 but fell in a 3-0 (26-28, 23-25, 16-25) loss to the No. 16 Purdue Boilermakers Thursday at Holloway Gymnasium.
The loss dropped Minnesota's record to 10-9 (6-5 Big Ten) and ended a four-game winning streak.
The Golden Gophers offense was paced by Taylor Landfair, who finished with 16 kills while accumulating a hitting percentage of .343, and by Lydia Grote, who had 13 while hitting .414. Defensively, Minnesota had two players reach double figures in digs as Kylie Murr had 12 and Melani Shaffmaster had 10 to go along with 38 assists.
As as team, Minnesota hit .289 with 51 kills, 45 digs, one block and one ace while Purdue hit .390 with 47 kills, 45 digs, eight blocks and seven aces.
Eva Hudson led Purdue with 17 kills and eight digs.
How It Happened
SET 1 | The Golden Gophers lost set one 28-26 in spite of a solid performance on the attacking side. Minnesota registered 22 kills with a 462 attack percentage. They had four set point opportunities to close it out but could not finish.
SET 2 | Minnesota dropped set two 25-23, digging a 2-0 deficit in the match. The Gophers came up short in a back-and-forth set, losing in a stanza that featured six lead changes and was tied 15 times. Neither team led by more than four points along the way.
SET 3 | Purdue finished off the sweep with a set three victory. The Golden Gophers fell in a tough set, 25-16. Minnesota trailed by as many as nine points as Purdue grabbed the advantage for good at 3-2 in a set that was tied up two times before the Boilermakers took over the lead.
Game Notes
» Minnesota put together a strong attacking performance, notching 51 kills in the match compared to Purdue's 47.
» Taylor Landfair had a team-high 16 kills for Minnesota, her 11th double digit kill match this season.
» Minnesota got a team-high 12 digs from Kylie Murr. It was her 19th straight 10+ dig match and 28th straight dating back to last season.
» Minnesota attackers were helped by a team-high 38 assists from Melani Shaffmaster to go along with 10 digs. It was Melani's Big Ten-best 12th double double of the year.
» Lydia Grote had 13 kills for her 11th 10+ kill match of the year.
