Gophers Swept at No. 2 Wisconsin

Taylor Landfair finished with 12 kills
MADISON, Wis. --Â The Minnesota volleyball team lost to the No. 2 Wisconsin Badgers 3-0 (13-25, 20-25, 19-25) Sunday on the road at Wisconsin Field House.
The loss dropped Minnesota's record to 10-10 overall and 6-6 in Big Ten play.
Taylor Landfair finished with 12 kills on the day to lead the Golden Gophers attack while Lauren Crowl tallied seven. Defensively, Minnesota had two players reach double figures in digs as Melani Shaffmaster had 16 and Kylie Murr had 12. Arica Davis led the way with four blocks.
Minnesota hit .107 with 32 kills, 44 digs, six blocks and one ace while Wisconsin hit .327 with 48 kills, 61 digs, 12 blocks and four aces.
Sarah Franklin paced Wisconsin (20-1, 11-1 Big Ten) with 21 kills and eight digs.
How It Happened
SET 1 | The Golden Gophers found themselves in an early deficit, losing a tough first set 25-13. Minnesota trailed by as many as 12 points as Wisconsin never surrendered the lead in a set that was tied up two times before the Badgers took control.
SET 2 | A 25-20 second-set loss put Minnesota in a 2-0 hole in the match. The Golden Gophers dropped set two in spite of a strong showing on the attacking side. Minnesota put together a .324 attack percentage with 15 kills in the set loss.
SET 3 | Minnesota couldn't prolong the match and lost in set number three. The Golden Gophers dropped the first point and fought from behind the rest of the way before falling in the set, 25-19.
Game Notes
» With the loss, Minnesota now leads the all-time series, 53-38 over Wisconsin. Sunday's match was the first ever volleyball match on FOX.
» Lauren Crowl delivered a season-high seven kills.
» Taylor Landfair tallied a team-best 12 kills in the match, her 12th 10+ kill match of the year. She holds 995 career kills and can reach 1,000 in her next game.
» Minnesota got a match-high 16 digs from Melani Shaffmaster to go along with 21 assists. It was her Big Ten-leading 13th double double of the year.
» Kylie Murr continued her 29-game 10+ dig streak with 12 on the night. She has 10+ digs in all 20 matches this season.
