The 'U' will host five home meets in 2024
MINNEAPOLIS – The University of Minnesota gymnastics program has announced its 2024 schedule. Their upcoming slate features five home contests, two neutral site events and four away meets. All times and complete broadcast information will be announced at a later date.
"We have a fantastic schedule starting with an exciting competition in Las Vegas," said head coach Jenny Hansen. "Both our Big Ten regular season and non-conference meets will give us the opportunity to compete with high level teams across the country as well as at Maturi Pavilion."
Minnesota will begin the year with the Super 16 meet in Las Vegas, Nev., where 16 of the best teams in the nation will go to compete in the second-ever event. They will compete on either Friday, Jan. 6 or Saturday, Jan. 7.
The Gophers will host their home opener on Saturday, Jan. 13 when Eastern Michigan comes to town for Saturday afternoon showdown. After the EMU meet, the 'U' stays home for its Big Ten opener on Monday, Jan. 22, taking on the Iowa Hawkeyes. This will be a 7 p.m. start and Big Ten Network will televise.
For its third straight home contest, Minnesota hosts Maryland on Saturday, Jan. 27. The first road meet of the year comes on Saturday, Feb. 3 when the Gophers head to Penn State. Coach Jenny Hansen and company will go back home for a contest on Saturday, Feb. 10 when the Michigan Wolverines come to town.
The Gophers close out their true conference road slate with a meet at Illinois on the weekend of 16-18 before going back to Penn State for the 'Big 5' meet. This year, they'll take on Michigan State, Nebraska, Ohio State and Rutgers in the 'Big 5' on Friday, Feb. 23.
To further prepare for the postseason, the Gophers have two more non-conference road meets. First, they'll go to Boise, Idaho to take on the Broncos of Boise State on Friday, March 1. After that, they'll head to SEC country to take on Alabama on Friday, March 8.
Senior Night will take place on Sunday, March 17 when Air Force, Northern Illinois and West Virginia come to town for the final meet of the year at Maturi Pavilion.
Postseason action will begin with the 2024 Big Ten Championships on Saturday, March 23, hosted by Michigan State. NCAA Regionals will begin on April 3 while the NCAA Finals go from April 18-20 in Fort Worth, Texas.
Minnesota will also have an intrasquad scrimmage before the season, with the date and time to be determined.
