Gophers Have Five in Double-Digit Scoring to Win, 102-76

The University of Minnesota men's basketball team won its second game of the 2023-2024 season with a 102-76 victory over UTSA, tonight at Williams Arena.
Minnesota had five individuals with double digit scoring led by Dawson Garcia with 22 points. Isaiah Ihnen finished with a career high 20 points on 7-of-7 (.100) shooting and also knocked down all five of his three-point attempts. Cam Christie made his collegiate debut, and he scored 18 points on 4-of-6 (.666) shooting from the three-point line. Joshua Ola-Joseph finished with 12 points, while Mike Mitchell Jr. had 11 on 3-of-6 (.500) shooting from three. Elijah Hawkins had a team high of 10 rebounds, and he also finished with 8 points and 8 assists.
The Gophers started the game off strong jumping out to an early 31-16 lead. Leading the scoring run was Christie, who connected on all three of his first career three-point attempts. Minnesota continued its success and went into the half with a 54-30 lead behind 13 points from Christie, 12 from Garcia and 10 from Ihnen. Minnesota's 54 points is the most points scored in a half since March 8, 2020 when the Gophers put up 55 in the second half against Nebraska.
Minnesota started off the half slow, but they quickly picked it up after they went on a 15-3 run to bring the lead to 69-35. The Gophers would go on to maintain a comfortable lead for the rest of the game behind another strong half from the offense. Minnesota finished the game shooting 54.5 percent (30-of-55) and they converted on 14-of-29 three pointers (.482). The Gophers also went 28-of-34 (.823) from the free throw line on the night.
Minnesota returns to Williams Arena next Thursday, Nov 16. against Missouri. Tip time is scheduled for 8 p.m. CST on Big Ten Network.

-In the first two games of the season, Minnesota has shot over 50 percent in both contests. The Gophers shot 52.5 against Bethune-Cookman and bettered it the second game to 54.5 against UTSA. Minnesota was also 28-34 on free throw attempts.
