STARTING FIVE
•  The University of Minnesota men's basketball team is back in action Thursday night when the Missouri Tigers come to town. Game time is set for 8 p.m., at Williams Arena and will be shown on BTN. This is the first game in a home-and-home agreement for Minnesota and Missouri. The Golden Gophers and Tigers are scheduled to meet again in 2024 in Columbia, Mo.
•  This is only the third meeting between the two schools in program history and the first since 1960. Like this series, Minnesota and Missouri played in a home-and-home in 1959 and 1960, with the Gophers winning both, 80-62 (1959 at Williams) and 60-56 (1960 in Columbia).
•  Minnesota opened the first week of play with back-to-back home wins over Bethune-Cookman and UTSA Monday and Friday night. Minnesota shot over 50 percent in both games, including 54.5 percent on Friday. In two games, the Gophers are averaging 91 points and shooting 53.5 from the field. They also shot 79.7 from the charity stripe.
•  Dawson Garcia has been named Big Ten's Player of the Week, announced Monday by the conference office. It marks the first Big Ten Player of the Week honor for Garcia and Minnesota's first since Payton Willis received the award on Jan. 24, 2022. In his first week of play, Garcia averaged 22.5 points when he recorded back-to-back 20-point games. He currently ranks second in the league in scoring, fifth in rebounding (10 rbg) and tied for seventh in assists (4.5 apg). In the opening game of the season last Monday against Bethune-Cookman, Garcia earned a double-double with 23 points, 14 rebounds and added six assists. He was one of three Big Ten individuals to record a double-double in the first game of the season. The last Gopher to open a campaign with a double-double was Daniel Oturu in 2019 (16 points, 10 rebounds vs. Cleveland State). Garcia also went 14-of-16 on free throws, the first Gopher since Marcus Carr in 2021 to score 10-plus in a game. On Friday, Garcia added his second 20-plus scoring game when he produced a team-best 22 points against UTSA. He went 7-of-14 in field goal attempts, 7-of-7 at the charity stripe, six rebounds and three assists.
•  In the first two games of the season, Minnesota have had seven individuals score double-digit scoring. Along with Garcia's 20-point productions, Isaiah Ihnen also scored a career-high 20 points against UTSA. Braeden Carrington and Elijah Hawkins had 13 and 10 points against Bethune-Cookman. Cam Christie, Joshua Ola-Joseph and Mike Mitchell Jr., had 18, 12 and 11 points respectively against UTSA.

LAST GAME RECAP
•  Minnesota had a trio score nearly 20 points apiece en route to a 102-76 win over UTSA Friday night at Williams Arena. Dawson Garcia tallied 22, followed by career bests by Isaiah Ihnen (20) and Cam Christie (18). It also marked Ihnen's first start since 2020, while it also marked the first-ever collegiate game for Christie.
•  Ihnen went 7-of-7 and 5-of-5 from three, while Christie hit the first three 3-point attempts of his career en route to 18 points.
•  For the game, Minnesota shot 54.5 percent from the field and connected on 14-of-29 three-point attempts. It marked the first 100-point game for the Gophers since Dec. 25, 2020. It also marked the highest half total since 2020 as well when the Gophers produced 54 points by halftime.

GOPHERS VS. SEC
•  The Golden Gophers hold a 19-15 all-time record against SEC members.
•  Like the Missouri two-year cycle, the Gophers and Mississippi State completed a home-and-home last year, marking the last SEC team the Gophers have faced. in that situation, both road teams won. The Gophers went to Starkville, MS in 2021 and won, while MSU came to Williams Arena last year and won its contest.

ABOUT THE TIGERS
•   The Missouri Tigers are in the midst of playing its third game in a week when it comes to town Thursday night. Missouri is 2-1 on the season, with wins over Arkansas-Pine Bluff and SIU-Edwardsville and a 70-55 loss against Memphis last Friday. The Thursday night contest is also the first road game for the Tigers this season.
