Gophers Conclude Season at NCAA Midwest Regional

The Gopher women finished fourth, the men 14th.

MINNEAPOLIS -- The University of Minnesota cross country teams concluded the 2023 season at the NCAA Midwest Regional in Stillwater, Okla., on the Greiner Family OSU Cross Country Course. The women finished fourth overall while the men were 14th. 

The women's program was highlighted by Erin Reidy, a redshirt junior from Downers Grove, Ill., who was 29th overall. Reidy's finish was nearly identical to her finish from 2022 where she finished 28th. Reidy clocked a time of 21:25.3, just a second ahead of Minnesota's No. 2 runner, Ali Weimer who finished in 30th. The men's team was led by redshirt junior Emmet Anderson who finished in 48th overall in a time of 31:45.8, improving his NCAA standing by four places from his 52nd-place finish in 2022. 

Overall, both Oklahoma State and Iowa State's men's and women's teams earned the automatic qualifying spots to the NCAA Championships in Charlottesville, Va., at the end of November. 

WOMEN'S 6K
Reidy and Weimer were closely followed by Emma Atkinson on Friday morning. Atkinson came in at 36th overall, putting down a time of 21:30.7. Minnesota's top five was rounded out by Taylor Kreitinger in 44th and Brianne Brewster in 45th with times of 21:36.9 and 21:37.8. Freshmen Elsa Bergman and Caroline Mendyk also competed for the Maroon and Gold, and finished as Minnesota's sixth and seventh runners, respectively. 

MEN'S 10K
Minnesota's day on the men's side saw Anderson finish in 48th, with the redshirt sophomore reaching as high as 32nd throughout the 10K race. Redshirt freshman Dan VanAcker concluded his stellar first season in uniform with a 61st place finish, completing his first 10K distance at the college level in a time of 32:02.0. Elli Hoeft wrapped up his collegiate cross country career with a 63rd-place finish in a time of 32:02.8. Noah Kohut-Jackson and Aaron Leavens were the final two scorers for the Maroon and Gold on Friday morning while redshirt freshman Griffin Ward was sixth on the team and Leo Goodman was seventh.
