Third Period Push Sends Gophers Past Bulldogs

The University of Minnesota women's hockey team picked up a road victory with a 3-1 win at AMSOIL Arena on Friday night.
Three different Gophers scored in Minnesota's series-opening victory, as Abbey Murphy, Taylor Stewart and Peyton Hemp each lit the lamp in the win.
Stewart, who played for Minnesota Duluth for four seasons, scored the game-winning goal to push the Gophers to victory in a storybook return to AMSOIL Arena.
Junior goaltender Skylar Vetter started between the pipes and stopped 32 Bulldog shots on the evening.
The Bulldogs put 14 shots on net in the opening frame, but Vetter stood tall and stopped all attempts. The Gophers killed a Bulldog powerplay with just under three minutes in the period, continuing their strong play while down a skater this season.
Minnesota broke the scoreless tie when Murphy found the back of the net while on the powerplay just over three minutes into the second period. Her second-period goal marks her fifth powerplay goal of the season, another impressive play for the team's powerplay unit that ranked third in the nation before Friday's game.
