Gophers Sweep Mavericks With 2-1 Win on Saturday

The University of Minnesota women's hockey team scored one third-period goal to vault them to a 2-1 win against the Mavericks in Mankato.
A tightly-contested first period saw neither team find the back of the net, with 11 shots on goal for the Gophers and eight for the Mavericks after 20 minutes of play.
The Mavericks struck first in period two while on the powerplay, but the freshman duo of Emma Kreisz and Ava Lindsay connected for a goal that brought the score even. Kreisz scored off a beautiful find from Lindsay, which marked Kreisz' second goal in the Maroon and Gold.
Sophomore Madison Kaiser scored the game-winning goal with 6:08 remaining in the final frame, with Sadie Lindsay and Solveig Neunzert assisting Kaiser's goal.
Junior goaltender Skylar Vetter recorded 20 saves and allowed just one goal in Saturday's win.

"A great win here on the road," head coach Brad Frost said. "We're a team that's comfortable in these tight games, and we found a way to win in the third. Really happy for [Madison] Kaiser's and Emma Kreisz' line, scoring our two goals, we needed both of them.
