MINNEAPOLIS - University of Minnesota men's golf head coach Justin Smith announced that Chun-Ta Wu (Sydney, Australia) has officially signed his National Letter of Intent and will join the Gophers in 2024.
"We are so excited to welcome Chun Ta to our University and golf program," said Smith. "Our program has always had a tremendous connection to Australia dating back a few decades. Chun-Ta will bring an impact in all areas just like the previous Australians who have decided to join the Gopher Golf family.
"From the beginning, we have had a special connection with Chun-Ta and his family, and we are excited to grow that over the entirety of his career. He is an elite player and student and fits the culture we are building so well."
A resident of New South Wales, Australia, Wu has seven top-five finishes in the last calendar year, including wins at the 2022 Bankstown Cup, the 2023 Eastlake Open, the 2023 ACT Week of Golf and the 2023 Adidas Junior 6s Lynwood (Under 18).
Wu is a part of the Long Reef Golf Club and is a three-time Long Reef Junior Champion (2021, 2022, 2023) and a three-time Long Reef Men's club champion (2021, 2022, 2023). He is the son of Martin and Lin.
"The reason why I chose the University of Minnesota was because of the coaches," said Wu. "The coaches made it extremely easy to communicate and ask questions, and I felt as if I connected with them very well."
