Braun Named to Big Ten's Weekly Honor Roll for Second Time

Braun averaged 23 points per game during a perfect 2-0 week for the Gophers.
MINNEAPOLIS – Minnesota sophomore Mara Braun has been honored by the Big Ten on the conference's weekly honor roll for the second time this season after her performances in the team's wins over Kentucky and Purdue. The conference office also announced the Big Ten Player of the Week and Freshman of the Week on Monday.
Last week the Wayzata, Minn., native dropped 23.0 points, 4.0 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game to lead Minnesota to a road victory over Kentucky (76-57) and a Big Ten opening win over Purdue (60-58). Braun hit a clutch jumper to tie the game with 13 seconds to go against Purdue and then made the game-sealing steal in the final seconds to help Minnesota come from behind to defeat the Boilermakers in the team's conference opener. Braun extended her program record for consecutive free throws made to 37 before it snapped; the streak goes down as the fifth-longest streak in conference history and the longest since 2018. From the Norfolk St. game (Nov. 29) and the Purdue game (Dec. 10) Braun did not register a turnover for over 137 minutes, the longest streak by a Gopher this season. She made four or more threes for the second and third straight games with five against Kentucky and four against Purdue and finished the week 9-of-15 (60 percent) from beyond the arc.
Braun's performances have helped the Maroon and Gold to its best start (9-1) to a season since 2019-20 (11-1). The team also is receiving votes in the latest AP Top 25, the first time the team has earned votes since the 2019-20 season.
Braun, a preseason All-Big Ten selection by the league's coaches, will be back in action on Dec. 13, against Grambling State (4-4, 0-0 SWAC) at 11 a.m. Fans interested in buying tickets for Gopher women's basketball this season can find more information at https://z.umn.edu/TICKETSwbb or by calling the Minnesota Ticket Sales Office by phone at 1-800-U-GOPHER or by email at gophersports@umn.edu.
