Hanson, Wucherer Named CSC Academic All-District

Both will be up for Academic All-American honors
MINNEAPOLIS -- Minnesota volleyball's Julia Hanson and Mckenna Wucherer have been named to the CSC Academic All-District Team, the organization announced this week. The 2023 Academic All‐District Team, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognizes the nation's top student‐athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom.
Julia Hanson, who was an Academic All-Big Ten selection in 2023, earns her first CSC Academic All-District nod. She currently holds a 3.58 GPA in the classroom. Hanson played in all 30 matches (102 sets) in 2023 and averaged 0.64 kills, 1.08 digs, 0.06 blocks and 0.12 aces per set. She tallied five+ kills three times, including a career-best 19 kills at Indiana on Nov. 12 to help keep Minnesota's NCAA Tournament hopes alive.
Mckenna Wucherer took home her first CSC Academic All-District honor as well. She holds a 3.98 GPA in the classroom. Wucherer earned her second consecutive AVCA All-North Region Honorable Mention after leading the team with 3.24 kills per set (career-high). Wucherer also posted career-bests in digs (1.78), assists (0.28) and aces (0.08) per set while leading Minnesota with 22 10+ kill matches. She was named MVP of the Big Ten/Big 12 Challenge on Aug. 26 after going for 30 kills, 11 digs and two aces on over .450 hitting in wins over TCU and No. 15 Baylor. She was also named to the Diet Coke Classic All-Tournament Team on Sept. 16. Wucherer posted four double doubles on the season, including a 21-kill, 10-dig match in a five set win over No. 6 Oregon on Sept. 8.
The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes volleyball honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA. The CSC Academic All-District® teams include the student-athletes listed on the following pages. Academic All-District® honorees were considered for advancement to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. Student-athletes selected as CSC Academic All-America® finalists are denoted with an asterisk and will advance to the national ballot to be voted on by CSC members. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced Jan. 9, 2024.
The Gophers went 17-13 (12-8 Big Ten) in 2023, advancing to their ninth straight NCAA Tournament. The Gophers season ended on Dec. 2 in the Round of 32.
