Gophers Start the Season Ranked 18th in WCGA Poll

Marlboro, N.J. -- The University of Minnesota women's gymnastics team is ranked 18th in the preseason WCGA poll, it was announced on Friday. The Gophers are coming off a 2023 season that saw them finish with a 10-6-1 meet record and a third place result at the Big Ten Championships. They finished fifth at the NCAA Regionals in Denver, Colo.

Senior Mya Hooten leads the team after being named a WCGA All-American in both floor (first team) and vault (second team). She won Big Ten individual titles in both events as well. Fellow senior Gianna Gerdes returns as well after earning First Team All-Big Ten honors last season.

The University of Oklahoma is the top women's gymnastics team heading into the 2024 season, as voted on by the members of the Women's Collegiate Gymnastics Association. K.J. Kindler is the head coach for the Sooners, and she is assisted by Lou Ball, Tom Hailey, and Ashley Kerr. Oklahoma will open the 2024 season at the Super 16 on the weekend of January 5th.

The Minnesota gymnastics team will host its intrasquad scrimmage on Saturday, Dec. 9 at 1 p.m. inside Maturi Pavilion. The meet will be free of admission for fans and B1G+ will stream.
