Gophers Fall at Rutgers
2/1/2023 9:57:00 PM | Men's Basketball
Joshua Ola-Joseph led Minnesota with a career-high 17 points and added a career-high eight rebounds, and Ta'Lon Cooper added 12 points, nine rebounds and seven assists, but RV/RV Rutgers (15-7, 7-4 B1G) recorded a 90-55 win over the Gophers Wednesday night at Jersey Mike's Arena. Minnesota (7-14, 1-10) was limited to eight players in the game, as the Gophers were without leading scorer and rebounder Dawson Garcia and guard Braeden Carrington.
Â
Rutgers jumped out to an early 9-3 advantage behind seven points from Cliff Omoruyi. A 7-0 run by the Scarlet Knights gave them an 18-7 advantage at the 11:46 mark, but the Gophers responded with a 13-4 run over the next five-plus minutes to cut the deficit to 22-20. Battle and Cooper each scored four points during that stretch, and Ola-Joseph knocked down just his third three-pointer of the season. But Rutgers closed the half on a 12-4 run to take a 34-24 lead at the half. Cooper led Minnesota with nine points and six rebounds at the break, while Ola-Joseph had seven points, and Battle had six.
The second half opened with a 14-4 run for the home team, which stretched the lead to 20 points. Rutgers maintained the lead the remainder of the game and won, 90-55.Â
Minnesota is back home against Maryland on Saturday. Game time is set for 8 p.m., and televised on Big Ten Network.Â
