CHAPEL HILL - The University of Minnesota Golden Gophers were not able to record a run against North Carolina pitcher sophomore Lilli Backes on Friday evening despite recording five hits and were shut out 1-0 by the Tar Heels.
Senior Autumn Pease (2-1) started and took the loss in the circle for Minnesota (4-2, 0-0 Big Ten). The right-hander went six innings, giving up one run on four hits, allowing one walk and striking out six.
At the plate, the Golden Gophers were paced by senior Amani Bradley, who went 1-for-2 on the day with two walks. Sophomore Kayla Chavez furnished a standout performance at the dish as well, going 2-for-4.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Minnesota managed zero chances with runners on third in the shutout, going a total of 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position. The Golden Gophers last got a runner on third in the seventh, when Bradley made it 60 feet away from scoring with two outs.
