Gophers in Contention After Two Rounds at Westbrook Invitational

Carpenter, Mesones both tied for first after 36 holes
PEORIA, Ariz. - The University of Minnesota women's golf team finished rounds one and two today at the Westbrook Invitational. It was a tale of two rounds as the team improved by 16 shots and moved forward six places between the two sessions.Ā
After shooting a tournament low 8-under-par as a team in round two, the U currently sits in fourth place with a score of 576 (E).
Nebraska finished the first two rounds on top of the leaderboard with a 10-under-par 566.

"This team has so much fight and grit, to be near the bottom of the leaderboard after round one and to be in contention after 36 holes is testament to this team's talent," said head coach Rhyll Brinsmead. "Everyday we strive to be in this position, we love to compete and we love to win so tomorrow is going to be a great day."
Notable:
Emma Carpenter showed impressive consistency shooting a 71 (-1) in round one and a 69 (-3) in round two. Her four-under-par finish has her tied for first.
Freshman Luisamariana Mesones (-4) sits alongside teammate Carpenter in a tie for first. She posted an incredible eight birdies in round two which moved her forward 20 places.
Grace Curran notched 25 pars and four birdies across her 36 holes finishing the day with a 147 (+3). Curran is in a tie for 34th heading into tomorrow's final round.
Isabella McCauley showed great improvement between rounds today. She finished her first 18 with a 77 (+5) and was able to shed off five strokes in round two to move into a tie for 45th.
Senior Leah Herzog rolled home two birdies along with 20 pars today. With a total score of 160 (+16), Herzog is tied for 78th.
