Minnesota Defeats Marquette and South Dakota to Improve Record to 2-2

The Gophers secured two wins against the Golden Eagles (4-2) and the Coyotes (4-3) to improve their overall to 2-2 on the season.
MINNEAPOLIS– The University of Minnesota tennis program picked up two wins on Saturday as it beat Marquette and South Dakota at home. The Gophers topped the Golden Eagles 4-2 in the morning at Baseline Tennis Center and then beat the Coyotes 4-3 in the afternoon. Minnesota is now 2-2 on the season.
Minnesota vs Marquette
Minnesota took a 1-0 lead in the match as it secured the doubles point with wins at first and second doubles. No. 1 Zoey Weil and Zeyneb Sarioglan claimed a 6-3 against Marquette's Julieanne Bou and Elisabeth Desmarias, while No. 2 Anet Koskel and Aiva Schmitz earned a 6-4 comeback win versus Lara Kaiser and Emilija Kojcic.
In singles play, Marquette earned points in the fifth and sixth positions as Minnesota did not have enough competitors to field the positions. The Golden Gophers rallied, winning three straight matches to secure a 4-2 victory against the Golden Eagles. Sarioglan earned Minnesota's first singles point with a 6-0, 6-1 win against Lara Kaiser at No. 4 singles. Weil put Minnesota up 3-2 in the match with a 6-4, 6-1 triumph at No. 2 singles versus Marquette's Emilija Kojcic. Schmitz secured the win for Minnesota with a 6-4, 6-3 victory against Desmarais.

South Dakota jumped out to a 1-0 lead by winning the doubles point. The Coyote duo of Paige Alter and Grace Chadick defeated Weil and Sarioglan, 6-4. The matchup between South Dakota's Sydney Weinberg and Bea Havlickova against Koskel and Schmitz was abandoned at 5-4.
In singles action, South Dakota earned points in the fifth and sixth positions as Minnesota did not have enough competitors to field the positions. Minnesota then won all four singles matches to earn the win. At No. 3, Schmitz topped Weinberg 6-1, 6-0, while Sarioglan downed Alter 6-1, 6-0 at No. 4.
