Minnesota Wins Fourth Straight After Two Wins on Sunday

The Golden Gophers earned a pair of 4-2 wins against Drake and St. Thomas.
MINNEAPOLIS– The University of Minnesota tennis program improved its overall record to 4-2 on the season after a pair of 4-2 victories against Drake and St. Thomas at Baseline Tennis Center on Sunday. Minnesota also improved to 4-0 at home this year, as it beat Marquette and South Dakota last weekend.
Minnesota vs Drake
Minnesota secured a 1-0 lead in the match as it claimed the doubles point with victories in the first and second positions. No. 1 Zoey Weil and Zeyneb Sarioglan took a 6-3 win against Drake's Darinka Stepan and Mille Haagense, while No. 2 Anet Koskel and Aiva Schmitz secured a 6-3 victory versus Ines Stephani and Oriana Parkins-Godwi.
In singles play, Drake earned points in the fifth and sixth positions as Minnesota did not have enough competitors to field the positions. The Golden Gophers rallied, winning three straight matches to secure a 4-2 victory against the Bulldogs. At No. 3, Schmitz swept Stepan 6-0, 6-0 to earn Minnesota's first singles point. At No. 1 singles, Koskel gave Minnesota a 3-2 lead with a 6-1, 6-1 victory against Stephani. Sarioglan secured the victory for Minnesota with a 6-4, 6-4 triumph past Elizabete Klavinska at No. 4 singles.
