The Golden Gophers dropped 4-3 Saturday afternoon to the Cougars in Lincoln, Neb.
Lincoln, Neb.– The University of Minnesota tennis team fell 4-3 to Washington State University Saturday afternoon at Sid and Hazel Dillon Tennis Center in Lincoln, Neb.
The Golden Gopher duo Anet Koskel and Aiva Schmitz fell 2-6 to Cougar pairing Eva Alvarez Sande and Elyse Tse, securing point No. 1. In the first position, the match between Zoey Weil and Zeyneb Sarioglan versus Maxine Murphy and Yura Nakagawa was abandoned at 4-3, Cougars.
In singles play, Washington State earned points in the fifth and sixth positions as Minnesota did not have enough competitors to field the positions. In the third position, Aiva Schmitz conquered Cougar opponent Yura Nakagawa 7-5, 6-1 to claim the Gophers their first point of the match. In the fourth position, Zeyneb Sarioglan secured a 6-3, 7-6 [10-8] second set tiebreaker victory over Washington States Elyse Tse. No. 2 Zoey Weil claimed a 7-5, 2-6, 6-2 win over Eva Alvarez Sande, while No. 1 Anet Koskel lost to Maxine Murphy 6-4, 4-6, 4-6, who secured the match for Washington State.
