MINNEAPOLIS – The Golden Gophers added three more All-Americans Saturday night at the NCAA Division I Women's Swimming and Diving Championships in Knoxville, Tenn.

Junior Megan Van Berkom garnered the first All-America First Team honors of her career, while fifth-year senior Joy Zhu picked up All-America honors for the second time in as many nights and freshman Vivi Del Angel recorded the first such accolades of her career.

It's the most All-Americans in one season for Minnesota since 2019.

Competing in the 400 IM, Van Berkom earned the highest finish of her career at the NCAA Championships as she came in sixth with a time of 4:05.37. That bested her 11th-place finish int the same event last year.

Van Berkom posted a 55.43 split in the fly, 1:03.81 in the back, 1:09.89 in the breast and came home in the freestyle in 56.24. Her sixth-place finish was the best by a Gopher at NCAAs since Brooke Zeiger also was sixth in 2016.

One night after placing eighth on the 1-meter, Zhu came back on the 3-meter and improved one spot Friday with a seventh-place finish. Zhu was also seventh through the 3-meter prelims after a score of 334.35, and she followed it up with a 322.55 in the finals. It's the sixth straight season that a Gopher has earned All-America honors on both the 1- and 3-meter springboards at the same Championships.

In the same event, Del Angel made her NCAA Championships debut and came away with a 16th-place finish on the 3-meter. Fourteenth through the prelims after a score of 310.40, Del Angel came back in the consolation finals with a 276.90. She's the first freshman to be an All-American in the 3-meter since Sarah Bacon in 2017, and coupled with Zhu, it's the first time since 2019 that the Gophers had multiple All-Americans on the 3-meter.

Minnesota also had junior Av Osero compete in diving. She was 45th in the prelims with a score of 236.15.

As a team, Minnesota is in 18th place with 37 points. Virginia leads the team competition with 374.5 points with Texas (272.5) and Stanford (239) in second and third, respectively.

The Gophers wrap up the 2023 NCAA Championships Saturday with Van Berkom taking part in the 200 fly and Del Angel on the platform. Prelims start at 9 a.m. CT.
