Minnesota took game one and Michigan State won the second in East Lansing

GAME ONE
EAST LANSING, Mich. -
Senior Autumn Pease and senior Bri Enter combined to throw a shutout on Saturday as the Minnesota Golden Gophers blanked the Michigan State Spartans 5-0.

Pease (17-6) started and picked up the win for Minnesota (25-15, 6-5), going six shutout innings while giving up four hits, walking none, and striking out six. Enter was dealing out of the bullpen as well, going one shutout inning, allowing one hit, walking none and striking out one.

Offensively, the Golden Gophers were paced by sophomore Taylor Krapf, who went 3-for-4 on the day with two RBI. Senior Sydney Strelow put together a noteworthy day at the plate as well, going 1-for-3 with a double, a walk and an RBI. Sophomore Kayla Chavez also chipped in for Minnesota, putting together two hits in four trips to the plate while adding a double.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Golden Gophers took the lead for good in the first, scoring for the first time in the inning. Minnesota plated two runs off of Michigan State pitching, one of which was driven in on a run-scoring double off the bat of Strelow.

The Golden Gophers then tacked on runs in the fifth inning when they scored three times. Two of those three runs scored on a two-run single off the bat of Krapf.

GAME NOTES
» Pease and Enter combined to throw a five-hit shutout.
» Krapf had three base knocks in the game for Minnesota.
» Pease struck out six Spartans hitters.
» Minnesota's highest scoring inning was the fifth, when it pushed three runs across.
» Minnesota took a 2-0 lead in the top half of the first and didn't surrender that lead for the remainder of the game.

GAME TWO
EAST LANSING, Mich. -
It was a heartbreaker on Saturday, as the Minnesota Golden Gophers was unable to push the tying run across, and came up one run short of victory, falling to the Michigan State Spartans 3-2.

Junior Jacie Hambrick (6-6) came out of the bullpen for Minnesota (25-16, 6-6) and took the loss. The right-hander went three innings, giving up one run on three hits, allowing one walk and striking out three. Freshman Sydney Schwartz was a bright spot for the Golden Gophers, starting the ballgame and throwing three innings, giving up two runs, zero earned, on two hits, with no walks and two strikeouts.

At the plate, the Golden Gophers were paced by sophomore Kayla Chavez, who went 1-for-4 on the day with a home run and an RBI. Sophomore Taylor Krapf compiled a standout performance as well, going 1-for-1 with a double and two walks. Senior Amani Bradley also chipped in for Minnesota, putting together two hits in three trips to the plate.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Golden Gophers got the scoring started early, putting one run on the board in the top of the first inning. Minnesota scored twice in the inning, including one on a solo shot from Chavez. The Golden Gophers were unable to hold the lead, as Michigan State scored three times over the remaining six innings to grab the 3-2 win.
