MINNEAPOLIS – The University of Minnesota softball team returns home in a three game series against the Indiana Hoosiers. This is the first time the two teams have competed since the 2021 season.

The Golden Gophers lead the overall series 54-43 and are 31-16 against the Hoosiers at Jane Sage Cowles Stadium.

WEEKEND QUICK HITS
Scouting Indiana
Sitting atop the Big Ten conference standings, the Indiana Hoosiers come to Minneapolis 29-9 overall, 8-0 in Big Ten play and with 25-straight wins; the longest winning streak in program history. The Hoosiers are led offensively by Taryn Kern (.432), Taylor Minnick (.419), and Avery Parker (.380).

For the fourth week in a row, Indiana picked up Big Ten weekly awards with Parker earning Freshman of the Week and Minnick winning Co-Player of the Week. Notably, Kern has won five weekly awards this season, including winning Freshman and Player of the Week twice in the same week (March 13 & 20).

Tracking the Gophers
Minnesota opened its Big Ten home season last weekend against Penn State, winning two-of-three games at Jane Sage Cowles Stadium. The Golden Gophers outscored (5-3) and outhit (17-13) the Nittany Lions and improved their record with two notches in the win column.

Last Time Up
The Maroon and Gold split a double header in Leesburg, Fla., with the Hoosiers in 2021. Minnesota took game one 6-2 and Indiana took the second, 7-5. Natalie DenHartog scored three runs and had one RBI while Sydney Strelow had a run and RBI between both games. Autumn Pease took the win in game one, going 6.2 innings allowing three hits, with seven strikeouts and no earned runs.

CHA-CHA!
Sophomore Kayla Chavez carried the Golden Gophers offense as they won the series over Penn State last weekend. She had two home runs, including a two RBI walk off homer in game one against the Nittany Lions. The Chino Hills, Calif., native averaged .700 with three doubles, three runs, three RBI, and a triple. She led Minnesota in every offensive category last weekend.

In The Circle
Senior hurler Autumn Pease had another stellar weekend in the circle for the Maroon and Gold. Pease had a 2-0 weekend, notching her third shutout of the year. The Murrieta, Calif., native pitched 14.0 innings and threw 19 strikeouts while allowing one earned run and two walks. In her second game against the Nittany Lions, Pease threw a weekend high of 11 strikeouts.

One of Our Own
Pease's performance in the circle has ranked her as one of the top pitchers in both the Big Ten and the country. The fifth year is third in ERA (1.64), second in innings pitched (123.2) and wins (14), and first in batters struck out (160). Nationally, Pease is 14th in innings pitched, fifth in strikeouts, and 10th in wins.

Home Run Heroes
Three Golden Gophers sit amongst the best bats in the Big Ten conference for home runs this season. Sophomore Taylor Krapf is fourth overall with 10, freshman Jess Oakland and graduate Natalie DenHartog are tied for seventh with seven. Minnesota and Indiana are the only two Big Ten schools that feature at least three players in this category.

Nat at the Top
Minnesota's all-time home runs leader, Natalie DenHartog, has continued to climb the ranks this season at the plate. The graduate has amassed 65 home runs in her career. DenHartog needs to leave the yard one more time to take sole possession of second overall in the Big Ten and 17 more to be the conference's all-time leader.

Big Ten Honors
Minnesota is the only school in the Big Ten that's had a weekly honoree in each category. Jess Oakland won Freshman of the Week on Feb. 13. Taylor Krapf won Player of the Week on Feb. 27, and Autumn Pease won Pitcher of the Week on March 13.
