Madol Selected to Canada's U19 FIBA World Cup Training Camp

MINNEAPOLIS -- University of Minnesota women's basketball signee Ajok Madol has been selected to attend a U19 women's national team training camp this week in Portland, Ore., Canada basketball announced. 

A total of 16 athletes were invited to attend with those athletes to be considered for this summer's FIBA U19 Women's Basketball World Cup 2023. The FIBA U19 Women's Basketball World Cup 2023 will take place from July 15-23, 2023 in Madrid, Spain and will feature the best 16 teams in the world. Canada is currently ranked 5th overall in the FIBA women's age-group rankings, presented by Nike.

Madol, who signed with the Golden Gophers in November of 2022, is set to join the Maroon and Gold for the 2023-24 season. The lengthy wing comes to Minnesota out of Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada, by way of Archbishop MC O'Neill Catholic High School. She is fresh off a co-MVP performance at the 2023 Girls Biosteel All-Canadian Basketball game where she finished with 13 points, seven rebounds, four blocks and three steals. In 2022 she played in the U17 FIBA World Cup with Canada, helping her squad reach the semis before falling to Team USA and finishing fourth overall. She also attended the 11th edition of the Basketball Without Borders Americas camp and the 2022 Biosteel All Canadian Basketball game in 2022. One of Madol's biggest performances in her prep career was in the Regina Intercollegiate Basketball League's junior girls division final where she scored 35 points.
