University of Minnesota rising sophomore Sarah Moraw is spending time in the African country of Kenya during the month of May as part of a university study abroad program.

The Holland, Mich. native will travel from the capital city of Nairobi to various other areas around the country, including Iten near the Rift Valley in Western Kenya. She'll spend time on the coast of Mombasa visiting local schools, University, and exploring nature as well.

"My time in Kenya so far has been nothing but a dream come true. While the scenery is jaw dropping and the wildlife is incredible, I am greatly overwhelmed by the community that the Kenyan culture is founded on," Moraw said. "Everywhere we go we are welcomed with open arms and smiles from amazing people. Even with a partial language barrier, our love for sports is a universal language that unites us together. I have learned so much from this group of people that I strive to be like. Our course is all about looking at how sports can empower youth to have greater opportunities in life. It is heartwarming to see the passion that the leaders of these organizations have for the kids in their community."

The course centers around the impact of sport, focusing on the importance sport has around the world. While in Kenya, Moraw will learn about the long-term opportunities for youth in the country while being able to compare her experience as an athlete in the United States.
