6/29/2023 11:00:00 AM | Gymnastics

She had spent the last two years as a volunteer assistant

MINNEAPOLIS – Kiki Parenteau, a member of the Minnesota Gymnastics coaching staff for the past two seasons, has been promoted to assistant coach, head coach Jenny Hansen announced. Parenteau has served as the volunteer assistant coach during the past two seasons for the Gophers, where she primarily coached floor and vault. She will assume responsibilities beginning July 1, 2023.

"We are thrilled to be able to hire Kiki in a permanent role for our program and grateful for the department in their support of this new position," Hansen said. "She has been an instrumental part of our success these past few years and fits seamlessly into the culture of our program. In addition, she possesses a strong passion for the sport and a wealth of knowledge and experience to this position that will continue our success well into the future."

Under the help of Parenteau, Gopher gymnasts Mya Hooten (First Team in Floor, Second Team in Vault) and Maddie Quarles (Second Team in Vault) earned WCGA All-American honors in 2022-23. Minnesota has been to the NCAA Regionals in each of the past two seasons and made a run to NCAA Nationals in 2021-22. The Gophers recorded a sixth place finish in Parenteau's first year on the staff, which was a program-best mark. In 2021-22, Ona Loper was named All-America First Team in the all-around and vault, while Hooten was named to the First Team on floor and Second Team on vault.

"I am extremely grateful for Jenny and the rest of the staff at Minnesota for giving me this opportunity," Parenteau said. "Being from Minnesota and growing up going to Gopher gymnastics meets, it is a dream come true to become an assistant coach for such an amazing program. I am very excited to continue to be a part of the Gopher family!"

While working as the Gophers volunteer assistant coach for the past two years, she worked at Flip's Gymnastics, where she coached levels 7-10 on all four events.

A Minnesota native and gymnast at Southern Utah University, Parenteau was a standout on bars before injury prematurely ended her gymnastics career. She immediately turned to coaching and started to give back to the gymnastics community. Parenteau became the student volunteer coach for two seasons at Southern Utah and provided instruction to support SUU gymnasts on bars and beam.

Parenteau graduated Magna Cum Laude from Southern Utah University with a bachelor's degree in family life and human development, emphasis in family services.
