University of Minnesota tennis coach Lois Arterberry welcomes her first-ever Golden Gopher addition as Anali Kocevar joins the program. Kocevar, hailing from Prebold, Slovenia, is transferring to Minnesota from Grand Canyon.
"We are excited to have Anali join our program," Arterberry said. "Anali comes to Minnesota with high-level collegiate experience, which will help her as she joins our program. Anali was a part of a conference championship team that advanced to NCAA regionals. That experience is one of a kind. We're confident she'll spread that energy and work ethic within our program. We look forward to Anali coming here and adding value to our program culturally, academically and athletically."
As a freshman in 2022-23, Kocevar was a part of Grand Canyon's Western Athletic Conference championship team last season. With that conference title, Kocevar and the Lopes automatically qualified for the NCAA Tournament and faced Pepperdine in the first round. Kocevar was named a Second Team All-WAC Singles and WAC All-Tournament Team, playing the second doubles and No. 4 singles. In her first collegiate season, Kocevar finished 13-5 overall and held a 6-2 record in WAC play in the 2022-23 season. She went 7-4 and 6-1 at courts three and four last season and was partnered with Madeline Lamoreaux in doubles, where they went 12-9 overall and 6-2 in WAC play.
Prior to her time at Grand Canyon, Kocevar attended I. Gimnazija v Celju, one of the best high schools in Slovenia. Playing tennis now for over 12 years, she was a multiple-time vice national champion in doubles and singles. She has a career-high ITF ranking of 1,370.
