Minnesota's standout sprinters will compete on Saturday and Sunday.
MINNEAPOLIS -- The University of Minnesota men's track and field team will have four individuals that will compete this weekend at the 2023 National Association of Athletics Administrations of Trinidad & Tobago (NAAATT) Open Championships. Kion Benjamin, Carlon Hosten and Devin Augustine will all compete at Hasely Crawford Stadium in the Port of Spain.
Three-time Big Ten champion Kion Benjamin, who recently announced his return for a fifth and final season in the Twin Cities, will compete in the 100m and attempt to defend his national title after winning the event in 2022.
All-American Carlon Hosten will be busy on the track over the weekend, competing in the 100m, 200m and the 4x100m relay on Saturday and Sunday. This past season Hosten became the first man to qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Championships in the 200m in program history this past season and will be an athlete to watch this weekend.
Fellow 200m specialist Devin Augustine will be just as busy with the rising junior to compete in the 100m, 200m and the 4x100m relay. Augustine was the anchor leg on Minnesota's 4x100m relay team that finished 10th in the NCAA this past season and set a new Big Ten Championship record on their way to the Big Ten 4x100m relay title this past season.
The 100m prelims will be contested on Saturday afternoon with the final being ran the same night. The 200m and the 4x100m relay will be ran on Sunday with the 200m prelims in the afternoon and the final of the 200m and 4x100m both during the evening session. Live results can be followed here.
Of note, Hosten and Augustine will not compete on the same 4x100m relay teams this weekend. Earlier this year the trio of Benjamin, Hosten and Augustine competed on the same 4x100m relay team, along with Ohio State's Eric Harrison, and posted the then-No. 10 4x100m relay time (38.30) in the world to win the San Salvador 2023 Central American & Caribbean Games. That time of 38.30, as of July 27, 2023, is ranked No. 15 in the world.
