MINNEAPOLIS – The Minnesota women's basketball team was honored for its work in the classroom Tuesday as the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) named the Golden Gophers to the 2022-23 WBCA Division I Academic Team Honor Roll.

Minnesota is one of seven Big Ten institutions that had their women's basketball program's honored by the organization after posting a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher after the 2022-23 academic year. The 'U' came in with a team GPA of 3.275; Robert Morris University posted the top GPA in the country at 3.807.

The 2022-23 season is the 28th in which the WBCA has compiled the honor rolls. Minnesota has been honored as a top 25 team in the classroom twice, with honors coming in 2022-23, 2020-21 and 2004-05. This is the third time in five seasons that the team has been honored by the organization.

The WBCA Academic Top 25 recognizes NCAA Division I, II and III, NAIA and two-year college women's basketball teams across the nation that carry the highest combined GPAs inclusive of all student-athletes on their rosters for the entire season. This year's release also marks the second year in which all teams which qualified for the top 25 rankings with the minimum 3.0 GPA also are recognized for their academic accomplishment.
