LAST TIME OUT: ROY GRIAK INVITATIONAL
The Gopher men's and women's cross country teams had a strong showing at the 37th annual Roy Griak Invitational, at the Les Bolstad Golf Course in Falcon Heights, Minn. The men's team finished in ninth place with 250 points on the day, while the women placed seventh with 201 points. California Baptist University won both the men's and the women's races, taking 46 points in the men's meet, and 63 in the women's meet.

For the Maroon and Gold, the men's team was led by Emmet Anderson, who finished the 8K race in 36th place (25:04.5). Redshirt junior Erin Reidy matched Anderson on the women's side with a 36th place finish (22:03.4) as well. The Gopher men were able to push five runners into the top 75, while the Gopher women had five runners in the top 50.

HOW THE GOPHERS GOT HERE
Minnesota saw the season debut of Ali Weimer at the Roy Griak Invitational last week. The Big Ten Freshman of the Year was fourth overall for Minnesota on a tough course, helping the Maroon and Gold to its seventh-place team finish in a deep field of teams. Reidy continued her strong start to the season, leading the way for the 'U', with Brianne Brewster dropping her career best time at the Roy Griak Invitational (22:04.1) to finish second on the team. Minnesota's other top five runners at the Griak were Emma Atkinson, who also won the Oz Memorial earlier this season, and Taylor Kreitinger who was 46th overall with her fastest Griak time of her career at 22:11.9.

REGIONAL RANKINGS
In the latest U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) regional rankings the Maroon and Gold sit at No. 4 in the Midwest Region behind Oklahoma State, Iowa State and Northwestern.

A GOPHER STATE OF AFFAIRS
Of the 23 women on Minnesota's roster, 16 hail from the Land of 10,000 Lakes. Four additional states and one other country are represented, including Illinois (2), Wisconsin (2), North Dakota, California and Canada. On the men's side, nine of the 17 members are from Minnesota. Wisconsin is represented by three student-athletes, while Idaho, Montana, Iowa, Connecticut and Washington are the homes to one Gopher each.

UP NEXT
Both the men and women will be off until October 14, when the Maroon and Gold travel to Charlottesville, Va., to run at the NCAA Pre-Nationals meet, hosted by the University of Virginia. That meet will begin at 8:45 a.m. ET, and is scheduled to be streamed on ACC Network Extra.
