'U' Swept by No. 8 Florida in Gainesville

Kylie Murr paced the team with 19 digs
GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- The No. 5 Minnesota Golden Gophers volleyball team fell to the No. 8 Florida Gators on Sunday afternoon in Gainesville, Fla. The Gators took the match in three sets, 22-25, 18-25, 22-25.
Mckenna Wucherer led the 'U' with nine kills while Melani Shaffmaster went for 18 assists and nine digs. Kylie Murr paced the backcourt with 19 digs.
As a team, Minnesota (2-2) hit .149 with 32 kills, seven team blocks, 45 digs and two aces. Florida (4-0) hit .248 with 46 kills, five team blocks, 61 digs and three aces.
Kennedy Martin led Florida with 15 kills and seven digs while Alexis Stucky dished out 32 assists with 11 digs.
Set Breakdown:
Set 1: Florida took the early lead after winning set one, 25-22. The Gophers held UF to just .143 hitting, but hit .000 themselves. Phoebe Awoleye, Lydia Grote and Mckenna Wucherer had two kills each to lead the offense while Kylie Murr had eight digs. Minnesota trailed by as many as seven at 21-14 before a 6-0 run sliced the lead to just one. The 'U' was unable to tie it up as the Gators went on a 4-2 run to finish it out and go up 1-0.
Set 2: The Gophers dropped set two, 18-25, falling down 2-0 in the match. The 'U' hit .179 compared to .273 for Florida. Taylor Landfair led the team with three kills in the set while Grote, Shaffmaster and Wucherer posted two apeice. Kylie Murr posted six more digs to get to 14 on the afternoon, passing the 2,000 career dig mark. Florida led for most of the set and led by as many as eight before the Gophers cut it to 18-14 on a dump from Shaffmaster. The visitors would get no closer, falling 18-25.
Set 3: Minnesota fell in set three, 22-25, as the Gators swept the match and took the final set. The Gophers trailed by eight at 18-10 before going on a 12-6 run to slice the Gators lead to just two at 24-22. One final kill from UF ended the set and the match after a timeout from the home team.
UP NEXT: Minnesota (2-2) travels to Palo Alto, Calif., for the Big Ten/Pac-12 Challenge next weekend to take on No. 6 Oregon and No. 2 Stanford. Pac-12 Network will stream both matches.
