LAST TIME OUT
The University of Minnesota women's track and field team competed at the M City Classic back in December with 10 different event victories coming from that meet. Minnesota saw three program top-10 marks go down with redshirt freshman Annie Nabwe registering two of those in the shot put and weight throw. Brooke Jaworski posted the sixth-fastest 600m time in her Minnesota debut after transfering from Texas, edging teammate Abigail Schaffee to win. Shelby Frank, the 2023 NCAA runner-up in the weight throw proved that she is back for more in 2023-24, posting a mark of 21.52m (70-7 1/4) to win the event in Minneapolis, which still stands as the No. 2 mark in the NCAA this season over a month later.
WHO'S BACK?
On top of Minnesota's two NCAA indoor scorers both returning this season, the Gophers also welcome back 12 different scorers from the 2023 Big Ten Indoor Championships, with those 12 student-athletes contributing points in nine different events. Shelby Frank, Abigail Schaaffe, Lexy Berger, Dyandra Gray, Alliyah McNeil and Erin Reidy all return to the track after redshirtting the outdoor season. Frank will aim to defend her Big Ten indoor title this season, a title that she earned by throwing her season-best mark (24.14m).
IN THE RANKINGS
The first USTFCCCA national and regional rankings will not be released until January 22 with the first conference and Event Squad rankings coming out for the first time on January 29.
Up Next:
Minnesota's January schedule will next shift to a pair of meets on Saturday, January 20 with the Simmons-Harvey Invitational in Ann Arbor, Mich., and the Vanessa Seljeskog Classic at Macalester in St. Paul, Minn.
