Three Times a Star for Pitlick, the Hat Trick Hero

Junior's third weekly award of 2023-24
ROSEMONT, Ill. - For the third time this season, Minnesota forward Rhett Pitlick has been named the Big Ten Conference Second Star of the Week following a five-point effort during a conference sweep of Ohio State at 3M Arena at Mariucci.
The native of Plymouth, Minn., shined bright against the Buckeyes and had a career day in the series opener. He recorded his first hat trick in a Gophers uniform to go with an assist for a career-best four points Friday. He got the scoring started in the middle of the first period and added his second point during the frame on a power-play assist. The junior went on to complete the hat trick, scoring twice in a three-minute span of the third period. Pitlick followed that by tallying his fourth goal and fifth point of the weekend Saturday, matching his highest point production of a single series with the Maroon and Gold.
His 19 points in 14 league outings leads all B1G skaters, while he is the only player in the conference to reach double-digit goals with 12. Pitlick continues to litter the scoresheet thanks to 23 points over the last 14 games played, including seven multi-point performances in that stretch, and leads Minnesota in total points with 28.
Pitlick is the only B1G skater with three star of the week honors and has earned a weekly award from the league in each of the last three months of competition. As a team, the Gophers squad has gone three-consecutive weeks in garnering recognition from the conference office.
Minnesota has totaled nine weekly B1G awards this year, the most of any team within the league, coming from six different players: Rhett Pitlick (Jan. 23, Dec. 5, Nov. 7), Sam Rinzel (Jan. 16), Jimmy Snuggerud (Jan. 10, Oct. 17), Bryce Brodzinski (Nov. 28), Brody Lamb (Nov. 14), and Justen Close (Oct. 24).
