Minnesota got steady performances up and down the lineup
MINNEAPOLIS --Â The No. 17Â University of Minnesota women's gymnastics team (6-0, 2-0 B1G) continued their 2024 B1G home slate with a win vs. No. 21 Maryland (2-1, 1-1 B1G) on Saturday at Maturi Pavilion. Minnesota posted a team score of 196.725 to 195.625 for the Terrapins.
"I thought it was a really solid performance," said head coach Jenny Hansen. "The girls reminded me we went 24-for-24, so that's all of our routines that we hit. That's a huge accomplishment, so we were really excited about that. It was a quick turnaround with two meets in one week, so we're excited to get back to a more normal week coming up."
With the the win, Minnesota moved to 20-1 in meets at the Pav since the 2021 season, including a 3-0 record in 2024.
The all-around crown went to Gianna Gerdes with a score of 39.425. Mya Hooten took home an event title with a 9.950 in the vault (tied season-high), her sixth event title of 2024. Gerdes earned the bars title with her spectacular 9.925 (career-high) outing. Ella Sirjord won her first career event title with a 9.875 on the beam. Emily Koch tied for the floor title as well with her 9.875.
Minnesota's best team performance came on vault, where they posted a season-best 49.275.
"We're always paying attention to landings, but I think there was just a little extra focus this week on those. I think we were just more intentional on that and it really showed up today," Hansen said.
