Minnesota earned a season-high 197.525 score

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- The No. 16 University of Minnesota women's gymnastics team (7-0, 3-0 B1G) delivered a season-best performance in a win at Penn State (5-2, 1-2 B1G) on Saturday afternoon. The Gophers totaled a score of 197.525 to PSU's 197.025.

"We had a feeling it was going to be a great day," said head coach Jenny Hansen. "We had such a good week of practice and it showed today. To end the day on beam the way we did, that is going to give the team a lot of confidence going forward."

With the win, Minnesota has now won seven straight meets against PSU, including their second ever at Rec Hall (2019). Minnesota's team score of 49.575 on beam was a season-best and the program's fifth-best beam score ever. It was Minnesota's best outing on the beam since March 5, 2021 (49.600) against Illinois.

The all-around crown went to Gianna Gerdes with a score of 39.525. Mya Hooten took home an event title with a 9.900 on vault, her seventh event title of the season. Ella Sirjord and Katie Horak both set career-highs (9.950) on the beam, which helped them win event titles. Freshman Jordyn Lyden delivered a 9.975 on bars. The score tied for the program record on the event.

"It was a special day of performances. Ella and Katie, I don't even think they could believe it when they saw the 9.950s on the beam. It was so fun to see all their hard work pay off."
